Thank you for your interest in this Folk Victorian style house model.
This package contains an exterior house model in .obj format for use in
Poser 4/PP/5/6 and applications that will import standard Alias|Wavefront.obj
format files with textures. The modeling detail and texture resolution are
not intended for highly detailed, close-up renders. Some detail that could
be included has been omitted to try and keep the polygon count within reason.
The model contains about 68,000 polygons (faces).

----------------------------------------------------------------

The model files (Poser file folder locations in parens) included in
this package are:

House model (Runtime/Geometries/buildings):
maps_folk01043.obj
maps_folk01043.mtl

Poser Prop (Runtime/libraries/props/buildings):
maps folk 01.pp2
maps folk 01.png
maps folk 01.rsr

Texture files (Runtime/textures):
maps_folk01_bricks01.jpg
maps_folk01_bricks01_bump01.jpg*
maps_folk01__Roofs01.jpg
maps_folk01_PorchDecks_01.jpg

*please note that bump map files must be applied manually.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Poser installation:
To install to Poser, open the zip file, click Extract, point the "Extract to" path
to your Poser folder and make sure that the "Use folder names" checkbox is checked.
Click the Extract button to unzip the files. The files should be unzipped to
the correct folder locations (indicated above).

Alternately, you can open the zip file select each file and drag and drop them
to their desired locations:

.obj files: "Runtime/Geometries/buildings"
.pp2, .rsr: .png files: "Runtime/libraries/props/buildings"
.jpg texture and bump files: "Runtime/textures"

The prop .pp2, .rsr and .png files can be placed in any prop folder. The .pp2 file
looks for the prop geometry file in the "Runtime:Geometries:buildings" folder.
If you want to place the geometry file in a different location, change the
"objFileGeom 0 0 :Runtime:Geometries:buildings:" reference in the .pp2 file
to the desired location. The path for the textures in the .pp2 files is
"Runtime:textures:[name of texture.jpg]." Poser should be able to find the texture
as long as it is in or under the textures folder. Poser looks for the
first occurrence of the file name. See your Poser manual if you are not
familiar with the Poser file types and folder structure.

General installation notes:
To use the model in applications that support the .obj format,
unzip the file(s) and follow the .obj file format import procedure
for the particular software you are using. If you are importing
into Poser, uncheck all import options to have the model load to
the default size and position.

When importing, make sure the .mtl ("materials") file and .jpg
texture files are located in the same folder along with the .obj
file to have the colors and textures applied otherwise you may
get an error message prompting you to specify a location for
the materials/textures.

If the import software supports procedural materials, select the "glass" objects
("meshes" or "groups") for the windows (and doors) and set the material for
each to a "glass" material or change the Refraction value to a "glass" setting,
usually about 1.53.

Notes about the model:
The Folk Victorian style (North American) is identified mainly by the
trimwork and porches added to the type of house known as the National or
National Folk. As railroads spread west in the 1850s, 60s and later,
woodworking machinery and precut trimwork and dimensional lumber became
readily available to local builders. Lumberyards stocked prebuilt parts like
doors and windows, spindle trimwork and dimensional lumber for balloon
type construction. Trim and accents added to the typical northeastern
and midwestern front-gabled and front-gable-and-wing borrowed from a
variety of popular styles but elements of Queen Anne and Stick are
probably most common. The trim used ranges from very elaborate spindlework
and jigsaw cut trim to simple shapes.

The model is a simple exterior, there is no interior detail but there
are individual rooms on the first and second floors. Doors and windows do not
open/move. For reference, the foundation of the building is 24" tall.

Bump map .jpg files are provided but not applied. The .jpg files can be used with
Poser Pro Pack, 5 and 6 as is and can be loaded into Poser 4/Studio which will prompt
you about converting the .jpg to a Poser .bum file. See the Poser manual for
more details. Set the initial bump strength for the bricks to about 40% and for the
foundation and then adjust depending on the lighting or preference.

The grouping of objects ("groups") within the .obj file will allow
for remapping and regrouping in many cases. For example, the door parts
can be grouped, i.e.: group the front door left, front door left panels and
door handle together to allow for positioning ("rotating"). The procedure
for regrouping is different for different software packages so check
your manual if you are unfamiliar with the process. The siding for the exterior
walls can be selected individually in a UV mapping program and texture templates
can be made for each wall rather than use the solid colors or procedural
materials (if the software supports procedurals).

Transparency/Bump Maps.
Note that Transparency and Bump Maps are not listed in the ,mtl file included with
the .obj file since applications handle transparency and displacement/bump differently.
With applications like Shade or Vue d'Espirit that can import Poser .pz3 files, the Refraction
setting can be adjusted to a "glass" setting, usually something around 1.53.

Poser material groups:
Material groups without a texture file listed indicate that a solid color has been used.
In order to retain the broadest import compatibility ("lowest common denominator"), no
Poser 5/6 procedurals have been used.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Note: Object ("mesh" or "group") and material names generally (hopefully)
follow these structures: B = Back; M = Main; FL, FR = Front Left, Right etc.;
ELLF, ELLL, ELLB, ELRF, ELRR etc. = ELL Left Front, ELL Left Left,
ELL Left Back etc.; WN = Window; int = interior; ext = exterior;
gl, glas = glass; S = side (or s = small). For this model,
"PorchBrack" = front "porch brackets" (not back porch "racks" :-).
Front porch objects are named "Porch...," and back porch objects are
named "PorchB...."
