CartesiusCreations Book of Beasts, 5 Volumes © Anders Kjellberg September 2005 All of this product's content was created by Cartesius (Anders Kjellberg). --------------------- Thanks for purchasing Cartesius' 'Book of Beasts'! With 'Book of Beasts' I continue the series of old books started with 'Practickal Magick'. This set is also created with the fantasy artist in mind, something that will look good on the shelves in your virtual library and something that will evoke a sense of knowledge and scholarship of old times. In 'Book of Beasts' you will find 5 books (all books share the same geometry) with 5 different textures, all conveniently packed as Poser 6 props. The title 'Book of Beasts' is found on all 5 books but each texture also has a unique subtitle - 'Dragons', 'Centaurs', 'Minotaurs', 'Hippogriffs' and 'Unicorns'. You can add the books to your Poser scene 1 by 1 or all 5 at once as a stack. --------------------- Installation: Run the zip extractor into your Poser directory (DO NOT unzip the archive to the Poser Runtime directory, or the files will not show up in Poser's library palettes). 'Book of Beasts' will now be available in Props > CartesiusBooks. --------------------- Poser 4 users: If you are using Poser 4 you will need to convert the "_BMP.jpg" files to bump maps BEFORE adding the figure to the scene! Here's how to do it: 1) Go to the Materials Editor (Render > Materials). 2) Select the Ground. 3) Click the "Load..." button next to the "Bump Map" and browse for the "_BMP.jpg" files. Poser will then convert it. 4) Click the Cancel button when done (this will cancel the material change, but not undo the conversion). Poser will save the BUM file to the same folder as the jpg file (to be used later) and will also retain the bump map in memory (to be used now). 5) Go to the Props > CartesiusBooks and add the book/books to your scene. --------------------- 'Book of Beasts' contains: 1 obj 6 PP2's (5 separate books plus 1 book stack) 5 1024x1024 color textures 5 1024x1024 bump textures 1 1024x1024 UV-template --------------------- For use in your favorite 3D application: The basic fileformat is *.obj which means that it's widely accepted in most 3D applications - simply import the *.obj file into your preferred 3D modelling application and re-assign the textures if necessary. You might have to scale the model once it's imported. The textures for 'Book of Beasts' are all 1024 x 1024 and based on real books in my possession (although I have edited them quite extensively) and should be suitable for most renders except extreme close-ups. Each color map comes with a corresponding bump map. The book is modeled with CINEMA 4D R9 and exported as Wavefront *.obj using the Riptide plugin. The book is completely UV-mapped with BodyPaint 3D R2 and comes with a UV-template so you can create your own textures. The naming of the texture and bump maps are pretty straight forward, with the name of the model it belongs to first, followed by volume title and finally if it's a color or a bump map. For example: BoB_Centaurs_BMP.jpg - Bump map for 'Book of Beasts: Centaurs' BoB_Centaurs_Color.jpg - Color map for 'Book of Beasts: Centaurs' It should be very easy to understand once you see the actual files :) --------------------- Exact list of all files included in this pack: License.txt BookOfBeasts_ReadMe.txt BookOfBeasts_thumb.jpg \Runtime\textures\cartesius\ BoB_Centaurs_BMP.jpg BoB_Centaurs_Color.jpg BoB_Dragons_BMP.jpg BoB_Dragons_Color.jpg BoB_Hippo_BMP.jpg BoB_Hippo_Color.jpg BoB_Minotaurs_BMP.jpg BoB_Minotaurs_Color.jpg BoB_Unicorns_BMP.jpg BoB_Unicorns_Color.jpg BoB_UV.jpg \Runtime\libraries\Props\CartesiusBooks\ Beasts_Centaurs.png Beasts_Centaurs.pp2 Beasts_Centaurs.rsr Beasts_Dragons.png Beasts_Dragons.pp2 Beasts_Dragons.rsr Beasts_Hippogrifs.png Beasts_Hippogrifs.pp2 Beasts_Hippogrifs.rsr Beasts_Minotaurs.png Beasts_Minotaurs.pp2 Beasts_Minotaurs.rsr Beasts_STACK.png Beasts_STACK.pp2 Beasts_STACK.rsr Beasts_Unicorns.png Beasts_Unicorns.pp2 Beasts_Unicorns.rsr \Runtime\geometries\cartesius\ BookOfBeasts.obj --------------------- System Requirements: Poser 4 and higher, or any application that can import the Wavefront *.obj file format --------------------- Have fun and don't hesitate to contact me if you need any help!
