CartesiusCreations 'Books of Science' © Anders Kjellberg September 2005 All of this product's content was created by Cartesius (Anders Kjellberg). --------------------- Thanks for purchasing Cartesius' 'Books of Science'! With 'Books of Science' I expand the range of old books initiated with 'Practickal Magick' and 'Book of Beasts'. This set of books is also created with the Poser fantasy artist in mind as an old library is never complete without works on scientific topics. These books are old and thus they cover established scientific practices like astronomy or chemistry but also topics like physiognomy, the art of deducing character from facial structures, and metroscopy (also called metoposcopy), the art of deducing character from the wrinkles in the forehead. In 'Books of Science' you will find 5 books: Discourse on Astronomy Euclid: Elements of Geometry A Treatise on Chemistry Physiognomy Metroscopy Please note that Physiognomy and Metroscopy are based on the same model. --------------------- Installation: Run the zip extractor into your Poser directory (DO NOT unzip the archive to the Poser Runtime directory, or the files will not show up in Poser's library palettes). 'Books of Science' will now be available in Props > CartesiusBooks. --------------------- Poser 4 users: If you are using Poser 4 you will need to convert the "_BMP.jpg" files to bump maps BEFORE adding the figure to the scene! Here's how to do it: 1) Go to the Materials Editor (Render > Materials). 2) Select the Ground. 3) Click the "Load..." button next to the "Bump Map" and browse for the "_BMP.jpg" files. Poser will then convert it. 4) Click the Cancel button when done (this will cancel the material change, but not undo the conversion). Poser will save the BUM file to the same folder as the jpg file (to be used later) and will also retain the bump map in memory (to be used now). 5) Go to the Props > CartesiusBooks and add the book/books to your scene. --------------------- 'Books of Science' contains: 5 obj 5 PP2 5 2048x2048 color textures 5 2048x2048 bump textures 5 2048x2048 UV-templates --------------------- For use in your favorite 3D application: The basic fileformat is *.obj which means that it's widely accepted in most 3D applications - simply import the *.obj file into your preferred 3D modelling application and re-assign the textures if necessary. You might have to scale the model once it's imported. All textures in this series are 2048 x 2048 and based on real books in my possession (although I have edited them quite extensively) and should be suitable for most renders except very extreme close-ups. Each color map comes with a corresponding bump map. The books are modeled with CINEMA 4D R9 and exported as Wavefront *.obj using the Riptide plugin. They completely UV-mapped using BodyPaint 3D R2 and each book comes with a UV-template so you can create your own textures. The naming of the texture and bump maps is as usual pretty straight forward, with the name of the model it belongs to first, followed by title and finally if it's a color or a bump map. For example: BoS_Discourse_BMP.jpg - Bump map for 'Books of Science - Discourse on Astronomy' BoS_Discourse_Color.jpg - Color map for 'Books of Science - Discourse on Astronomy' It should be very easy to understand once you see the actual files :) --------------------- 'Books of Science' contains: 5 obj 5 2048x2048 color textures 5 2048x2048 bump textures 5 2048x2048 UV-templates - please note that these maps show a simplified UV-layout without all geometry; it is perfectly fine to use as templates for painting (I used them myself) but if you want the more complicated UV-layout just drop me a mail! --------------------- Exact list of all files included in this pack: License.txt BooksOfScience_ReadMe.txt BooksOfScience_thumb.jpg \Runtime\geometries\cartesius\ BoS_Discourse.obj BoS_Euclid.obj BoS_Metroscopy.obj BoS_Physiognomy.obj BoS_Treatise.obj \Runtime\libraries\Props\CartesiusBooks\ BoS_Discourse.png BoS_Discourse.pp2 BoS_Discourse.rsr BoS_Euclid.png BoS_Euclid.pp2 BoS_Euclid.rsr BoS_Metroscopy.png BoS_Metroscopy.pp2 BoS_Metroscopy.rsr BoS_Physiognomy.png BoS_Physiognomy.pp2 BoS_Physiognomy.rsr BoS_Treatise.png BoS_Treatise.pp2 BoS_Treatise.rsr \Runtime\textures\cartesius\ BoS_Discourse_BMP.jpg BoS_Discourse_Color.jpg BoS_Discourse_UV.jpg BoS_Euclid_BMP.jpg BoS_Euclid_Color.jpg BoS_Euclid_UV.jpg BoS_Metroscopy_BMP.jpg BoS_Metroscopy_Color.jpg BoS_Metroscopy_UV.jpg BoS_Physiognomy_BMP.jpg BoS_Physiognomy_Color.jpg BoS_Physiognomy_UV.jpg BoS_Treatise_BMP.jpg BoS_Treatise_Color.jpg BoS_Treatise_UV.jpg --------------------- System Requirements: Poser 4 and higher, or any application that can import the Wavefront *.obj file format --------------------- Have fun and don't hesitate to contact me if you need any help!
