CartesiusCreations 'Open Book' © Anders Kjellberg October 2005 All of this product's content was created by Cartesius (Anders Kjellberg). --------------------- Thanks for purchasing Cartesius' 'Open Book'! 'Open Book' is a static model of a book flipped open. It comes with 4 color texture maps for the pages, all with a touch of history, magic and ancient science. This book will definitely be a good addition to any scene requiring a book where the pages are meant to be seen! Please note that this prop is static, ie. it's not poseable. --------------------- Installation: Run the zip extractor into your Poser directory (DO NOT unzip the archive to the Poser Runtime directory, or the files will not show up in Poser's library palettes). 'Open Book' will now be available in Props > CartesiusBooks. --------------------- Poser 4 users: If you are using Poser 4 you will need to convert the "_BMP.jpg" files to bump maps BEFORE adding the figure to the scene! Here's how to do it: 1) Go to the Materials Editor (Render > Materials). 2) Select the Ground. 3) Click the "Load..." button next to the "Bump Map" and browse for the "_BMP.jpg" files. Poser will then convert it. 4) Click the Cancel button when done (this will cancel the material change, but not undo the conversion). Poser will save the BUM file to the same folder as the jpg file (to be used later) and will also retain the bump map in memory (to be used now). 5) Go to the Props > CartesiusBooks and add the book to your scene. --------------------- 'Open Book' contains: 1 obj-files 4 Poser props (PP2) 5 1024x1024 color textures (4 different page spreads and 1 cover) 5 1024x1024 bump textures (4 different page spreads and 1 cover) 2 1024x1024 UV-templates (1 for the pagespread and 1 for the cover) --------------------- For use in your favorite 3D application: The basic fileformat is *.obj which means that it's widely accepted in most 3D applications, not only Poser - simply import the *.obj file into your preferred 3D modelling application and re-assign the textures if necessary. You might have to scale the model once it's imported. --------------------- The textpages were composed mainly in Adobe FramMaker (using various historical fonts) and then exported as PDF. The PDF was opened with Adobe Photoshop and superimposed over scanned original blank bookpages and then aged using custom brushes and filters. The illustrations were drawn using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. The color maps for 'Open Book' are 1024 x 1024 and comes with corresponding bump maps. The book is modeled with CINEMA 4D R9 and exported as Wavefront *.obj using the Riptide plugin. The book is completely UV-mapped with BodyPaint 3D R2 and comes with UV-templates so you can create your own textures. The naming of the texture and bump maps are pretty straight forward, with the name of the model it belongs to first then finally if it's a color or a bump map. For example: OpenBook1_BMP.jpg - Bump map for OpenBook1 OpenBook1_C.jpg - Color map for OpenBook1 It should be very easy to understand once you see the actual files :) --------------------- Macintosh users: If you are using Poser 4 or ProPack you might need MacConverter to convert *.rsr files to a Macintosh compatible resource. MacConverter is available from http://www.soft-rabbit.com. --------------------- Exact list of all files included in this pack: License.txt OpenBook_ReadMe.txt OpenBook_thumb.jpg \Runtime\textures\cartesius\ OpenBook1_BMP.jpg OpenBook1_C.jpg OpenBook2_BMP.jpg OpenBook2_C.jpg OpenBook3_BMP.jpg OpenBook3_C.jpg OpenBook4_BMP.jpg OpenBook4_C.jpg OpenBook_Cover_BMP.jpg OpenBook_Cover_C.jpg OpenBook_Cover_UV.jpg OpenBook_UV.jpg \Runtime\libraries\Props\CartesiusBooks\ OpenBook1.png OpenBook1.pp2 OpenBook1.rsr OpenBook2.png OpenBook2.pp2 OpenBook2.rsr OpenBook3.png OpenBook3.pp2 OpenBook3.rsr OpenBook4.png OpenBook4.pp2 OpenBook4.rsr \Runtime\geometries\cartesius\ OpenBook.obj --------------------- System Requirements: Poser 4 (Mac/Windows) and higher, or any application that can import the Wavefront *.obj file format --------------------- Have fun and don't hesitate to contact me if you need any help!
