Modern Ofuro - Copyright by Forester (Pamela Case) on February 18, 2006 This package contains several versions of a very carefully made modern Japanese ofuro. An "ofuro" is a Japanese soaking tub - the word also references the place where the 'furo' proper is located, and the washing area one uses before entering the ofuro. This model is of an original design, modern ofuro building, but one that is built along of traditional lines, and with traditional tile and wood materials. The model is in *.3ds file format. The ofuro building has one traditional material, shoji entrance door at the rear of the building, and three modern glass shoji doors at the front of the building. These glass shoji, along with the glass shoji window on one side allow bathers to have views into a Japanese garden or other landscape on the outside of the building. A bamboo engawa surrounds the building. The furo itself, the water faucets, and all the components of the building are accurately scaled to traditional measurements. Two or three people would fit comfortably in this building and within the furo. A fully illustrated document included with this model package describes its various components, and explains the basic customs of Japanese bathing. The model package includes the basic model and six additional versions of it for people who might be using the Poser program. A small stool, two teoke cedar buckets, towels and an extra light fixture are included in the package. Notably, this package also contains two physically accurate shower water meshes, one shower water mesh for the floor and six bathing poses for the Victoria Poser model. The furo itself has a rippling hot water surface mesh, of course. This model has been very carefully designed and constructed to be as authentic and in as much accord with the centuries-old traditions of Japanese bathing as possible. The wood textures used are carefully scanned from original materials and are of species that are correct for an ofuro. They have been cut and applied in the same ways that would be used by an actual carpenter. The dimensions of the building, the furo and all the components of the building are accurately scaled to accord with the historical Japanese measurement system. The basic model may be imported in a wide variety of programs. Shoji doors can be opened and closed. The shower water meshes are optional, but will give realistic results if people are posed in this model. For Poser users, and people using programs that do not allow independent movement of the subcomponents, there are the following additional versions of the basic building.
