product title: islands & beaches: 50 vue 6 terrains author: karen verba website: www.the-willow-grove.com product date: 11 june 2007 product copyright: karen verba ownership statement of licensed source material: all of this product's content was created by karen verba. created in vue 6 infinite. needed files & system required: vue 6. optimal for vue 6 infinite & xstream. vue 6 esprit owners: please see special notes below. installation instructions: unzip the zip file to the folder of your choice. the usual placement is in a subfolder inside your vue objects folder for easy reference. files list: ..\the willow grove\islands & beaches\ kv_bog kv_is1 kv_is2 kv_is3 kv_is4 kv_is6 kv_is7 kv_is8 kv_is9 kv_is10 kv_is11 kv_is12 kv_is13 kv_is14 kv_is15 kv_is16 kv_is17 kv_is18 kv_is19 kv_is20 kv_is21 kv_is22 kv_is23 kv_is24 kv_is25 kv_is26 kv_is27 kv_is28 kv_is29 kv_is30 kv_is31 kv_is32 kv_is33 kv_is34 kv_is35 kv_is36 kv_is37 kv_is38 kv_is39 kv_is40 kv_is41 kv_is42 kv_is43 kv_is44 kv_is45 kv_is_5beach kv_islandstones1 kv_mtbeach1 kv_mtbeach2 kv_straits conversion or application instructions: none that i know of. usage tips/limitations: terrain detail: these are saved at a managable resolution of 512 (increasing to 1024 more than triples the file size). a little trick you can use to get more detail is increasing the size to 1024 in the terrain editor. changing a standard resolution terrain to procedural will also increase the detail. alternately, if you have more sharp detail in a procedural terrain than you want, you can change it to a standard, which makes it a little smoother. changing a standard to procedural terrain will sometimes appear to "squash" the terrain in the terrain editor (this is for infinite & xstream). this is fine, the terrain will appear in your render as normal (unsquished). when you load the terrain it may be floating above the ground. go to edit/drop object to drop the terrain to the ground or water plane. use the shift/arrow buttons if you want to fine tune position, you'll probably only have to tap the arrow once or twice. or you can raise the water plane the same way. this is to get the shore edges slightly submerged if you want them to show thru the transparency of the water. also, if using the default vue scene, the terrains will come in close to the camera. just select & push them back using the top view screen. to enlarge, resize the terrain by dragging on one of the corners. alternately it can be shrunk. ****flat water bug**** occasionally water will go completely grey flat when using the spectral atmosphere. to fix this, open your atmosphere editor, & select the sky, fog & haze tab. down near the bottom there's a slider that says "aerial perspective." slide this up a notch or 2 & the water will appear as normal (reflecting sky). ****special note for vue 6 esprit owners: most--if not all--the terrains in this pack should load just fine. my usual working method is to start with a standard terrain, then sometimes i convert it to procedural to get a little more detail. esprit apparently will load & resize these without much problem. however, a terrain which BEGINS as a procedural terrain may pose some challenges to esprit. altho the terrain will load, it will sometimes squash down & smooth if resized. it should be okay if left alone (unresized). a workaround that SOMETIMES works is to load the terrain, copy-paste it, then resize the copy. this is however not a reliable workaround. there should be few--if any--terrains in this pack that should present a problem for esprit. i don't usually start a terrain as a procedural. the terrain editor in this case tends to generate high walls at the edges which block the camera view. i usually prefer to have high edges trimmed off & i like more hands-on creative control. therefore i tend to begin in standard format, & then sometimes converting it. however there MIGHT be isolated incidences where i began a terrain in procedural mode. again, these should be usable by esprit owners if they're not resized.
