INSTALLATION:

You will need an unzipping program (such as WinZip, or you can use WindowsXP's unzipping ability). Unzip the files and place them in a folder of your choice. Then copy the file 'dpFunkyRust.asl' to your Photoshop styles' Windows directory (usually C:/Program Files/Adobe Photoshop/Presets/Styles).

USAGE TIPS (well, that's really only for a novice user):

If you apply a style to a too small an object, it may happen that it gets too dark (that is because of the amount of the Inner Shadow effect applied to a layer style. There are four things you can do to fix this:

- make your object fairly large (500x500px or more), apply a style, merge the layer with the style applied with an empty layer below it, and then resize your object.

OR

- in the layers' palette, under the 'effects' click on 'Inner Shadow and in the pop-up dialogue reduce the 'Size' value (the bigger the value, the darker the image)

OR

- go to Layer > Layer Style > Scale Effects and enter a smaller number than 100%. The tip here is that the numbers 15, 25, 50, 75 & 100 will give you a sharp image, whereas all the other numbers tend to blur the Pattern Overlay. Also, this method scales ALL effects in a layer style - that is, you get a smaller bevel and a smaller pattern overlay. But sometimes it can be useful to scale styles this way.

OR

- apply your style (if you are working with small scale images) to a non-resampled 72dpi image.

The reason the Inner Shadow effect on all presets is set very high is that I wanted you to be able to apply the styles to a large images. It's better to scale the effect down for the smaller images, then scale it up for the larger ones - the result in the latter case is not very satisfactory. :-)

Also, if you are not satisfied with bevel settings (if you don't want to apply the rust texture to a large object, but rather to create a wire, for example), you can always play with it and adapt it to your own needs.

I would not recommend these styles to be used to texture large size images (3600x3600, for example), due to the nature of the repeating pattern overlay. For large size images you get better results if the images are hollow, irregular shapes (frames or overlays for example).
