Description:

Europasaurus holgeri is a sauropod. It lived during the Late Jurassic (155-150 million years ago) of northern Germany, and has been identified as an example of  dwarfism resulting from the isolation of a sauropod population on an island within the Lower Saxony basin. Remains of both adults and juveniles have been recovered, representing more than eleven individuals ranging from 1.7 to 6.2 meters in total body length. The genus name means "lizard from Europe" 
 A phylogenetic analysis places little Europasaurus between the 18-meter-long Camarasaurus and the gargantuan 30-meter-long Brachiosaurus. This suggests that 6.2-meter Europasaurus evolved from much larger ancestors who were forced to put a brake on their growth in order to survive in a land of limited resources.
