-------------------------------------- Product Name: Russian Samovar Copyright 09-16-2010 (c) Robert Blanda By: Robert Blanda Contact: Cybertenko -------------------------------------- System Requirements: PC, Poser 6 and higher, (not tested on MAC) -------------------------------------- Product Description: Samovar is traditional russian device developed for boiling water for preparation of tea and other kitchen purposes. It consists of a large metal tank with a faucet near the bottom for pouring water. Although there various types of samovars and kinds of its heating, the most traditional ones are heated by a metal pipe running vertically through the middle of the tank. This pipe, called a „cuvshin“ is filled by various kinds of solid fuel, mostly embers, glowing twigs or pinecones to heat the water in the surrounding container. Samovars are typically made out of copper, brass, bronze, silver, gold, tin or nickel. A small smoke-stack can be put on the top of samovar on to metal ring called „konforka“ to ensure draft. For serving the tea teapot „zavarnik“ could be placed on top to be kept heated with the passing hot air. The teapot is used to brew strong concentrate of tea known as „zavarka“. The tea is served by diluting this concentrate with boiled water „kipyatok“ from the samovar tank, usually at a ratio of about 10 parts water to one part tea concentrate. The concentrate is poured into cups or glassess through small metal sieve „sitechko“. The most knot factory for producing samovar was located in the city of Tula known for its metalworkers and arms-makers. Since the 18th century Tula has been also the main center of russian samovar production, and Tula´s samovars became the best ones. During 19th century samovars were already a common feature of the russian tea culture. They were produced in large numbers and exported into Central Asia and other regions. You will find the items in Characters and Props folders named Samovar. Mesh, textures and reflection map are stored in respective folders. -------------------------------------- Usage Tips or Limitations: In folder Characters you will find three main items. The first is base samovar body, which you should load first. Then load the Lid figure and parent it to Samovar body. The third item here is preloaded set which consists from teapot variant of samovar and four tea glasses around it. Once you load the samovar and its lid, move to props folder, where you will find other accessories. You can load embers and water props, although at normal circumstances they are not visible. Next load konforka, which is base for placing teapot on the top of samovar. Then you decide which variant you want to render - if you need samovar during serving tea then load teapot and teapot lid. The other variant is for preparation of boiled water and for that stack is used. Or you can use samovar only with konforka placed. Both konforka and stack have its own lids, called "zaglushka" needed for dousing the fire. For tea glass you can decide if you use preload set consisting from four already placed glasses, or you can load another one. It consists of base prop - the plate to which is smartparented glass in metal holder and spoon (either standing in glass or laying on the plate) which is parented to glass. Finaly you can use the sieve on the top of the glass. When rendering scene with glassess, consider turning raytracing off otherwise you can get really long render times. Samocar uses mostly procedural material for metal parts and UV mapped textures for other items. You can easitly change look of your samovar if you choose antoher metal material for material zone called Coat.
