====================================================================== ************************************************************ *Product Name: Fox-Lights IBL Bundle *Copyright 09.18.2010 *By: SaintFox and Digital-Lion *contact: saintfox(at)web.de Please replace the (at) with an @ when sending an email. ************************************************************ Thank you for choosing the Fox-Lights IBL Bundle. We hope you will enjoy your purchase! -------------------------------------- System Requirements: Poser 6 or higher -------------------------------------- Ownership Statement: All of the content in this package was created by SaintFox and Digital-Lion, and may include derivatives of the following merchant resources: The Candy-Colored Future, Candy Future Bonus and BC Wild Lands by lwperkins Photgraphs by cgtextures Our own rendered images Material shaders based on work by tabala (used with special permission) -------------------------------------- Installation Instructions: Run Winzip or another zip-program and point it your Poser directory. All files will be placed as shown below from the Filelist. Be sure to check the "Use folder names" option when unzipping and point Winzip to your Poser directory. After unzipping you will find the lights in the folders that you can find in the folder list. The textures and the geometry should stay in their original folder, otherwise you will get an error when loading a light set. The other folders containing lights and props may be moved to another folder in the corresponding library if desired. -------------------------------------- Usage Tips or Limitations for each set: This package is made and tested to be used in Poser 6, 7 and PoserPro with the Firefly Renderer. The Soft Lights will work on Poser 8 as well and have been tested here. But especially the combination of Raytraced shadows and Ambient Occlusion in your scene may need some adjustments. The very dim results or the extreme highlights that some of the light sets will give you are made willingly. "Soft Lights" is a light set that creates special effects, it is able to give your used character(s) and props a completely new look and to add an intimate and cosy feeling to your scene. It is recommended to do a test-render before starting the large gallery render. If your render is too bright or dark for your taste you can find the light source that needs to be altered by turning each light off and on in the properties tab. The easiest way to change the brightness of a light is to alter the intensity. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING: Be sure to delete all lights from your scene before you add one of the light sets. Repeat this each time you want to change the lighting! I have included a handy button in the light-folder ("!DeleteAllLights") that calls the standard Poser python script to delete all lights from your scene. Depending of your version of Poser this button MAY give you an error when using it. If it doesn't work for you you can use the python script "deleteLights.py" from Poser's Python library instead or got to your scripts menue and find it under "Utilities". Using the lights is pretty easy. Build up your scene and choose the desired light. You'll see that you have the choice between "AO" and "NoAO" lights - each IBL based light comes in two versions, with and without Ambient Occlusion enabled at the IBL. If you explore the lights you'll find that each set is made from one IBL-light and some "assisting lights" that add highlights and shadows to the IBL. You can change the colors of the assisting lights to your need but making test renders can be necessary then. If you find that one of the lights does not react on altering it's position you have picked a light that points to a bodypart of your character. So there's nothing wrong with your Poser! If you do not want the light to move with your character just choose "Point at" from The Object-Menue and point the light to the Universe. But keep in mind that we choosed this feature to achieve a specific effect. If you create something beautiful when playing with the lights: Be sure to save the result to your runtime!! We encourage you to play around with the camera and turn your figure(s) and prop(s) to catch different parts and sources of the set. Of course you can move and rotate the lights as well but as the assisting lights are placed to boost the effect of the IBL you may achieve better effects when moving and rotating the camera and parts of your scene. ******************************************************************************************* Some important hints about the interplay of textures and light: Please keep in mind that Image based lighting is a technique that came with Poser 6. The realistic effects that IBL can give you depends highly on the advanced material options that the newer versions of Poser offer you for your scenes. If you find your character looking dull or lifeless or if the skin-texture appears very dark I recommend checking the material settings of your figure. Image based light looks best on characters with advanced shader settings. Your character's material settings should contain shaders that add a slight shine to the skin: A blinn-node or a specular node or -map, even better when used together with bump and/or displacement. If you want to use a character that comes with a plain texture you can add a blinn node manually to all material zones that contain a skin-texture or use one of the tools that face_off offers (Unimesh realism kit, Real Skin Shader, V4 realism kit). If you want to set up some sheen manually you can do it in the material room (advanced mode) and finding the first material zone of your figure that contains skin. Now click on the little plug beside "Alternate Specular" and choose New node-->Lighting-->Specular-->Blinn. Repeat this for every material zone that contains skin. If you desire it you can use the blinn node on the nails, too. The blinn node does not cause a glossy effect, the sheen just gives the illusion of healthy skin. The same may go with clothes, every piece of clothing that uses advanced material settings for the surface will look realistic when used with IBL while plain textures may (!) look dull and lifeless. Some words about Ambient Occlusion: Ambient Occlusion, called AO, can be described as an alternate kind of shadow. AO causes the small shadows that appear where surfaces come close together: The edge of a piece of clothing, the interaction of furniture and body, the region where the upperlip touches the lower lip - these things cause small shadows where the surfaces "meet". AO can boost realism and the feeling of depth in your images. You find that each of the lightsets comes in two versions: With AO added to the lightsource called "IBL" and without AO. So it's up to you if you want AO for your whole scene (choose the "AO" version of the desired light) or without (choose the "No AO" version). Often it is enough to set up AO for the character(s) in your scene and leave clothes, accessories and environment as is because Ambient Occlusion, added to the IBL, can increase the render time. But you should give it a try anyway, the effect may boost your render dramatically. If your character is already equipped with AO nodes you should make a test with both versions of the light and decide for the set that meets your taste. Often you get far too hard shadows with AO on the skin and the light! If the materials of your character do not contain AO you can use the "Occlusion Master" by face_off to set it up automatically or set it up manually. If you want to set up Ambient Occlusion manually you can do it in the material room (advanced mode) by finding the first material zone of your figure that contains skin. Now find the button on the right side (under the "Wacros" menu) that says "Set Up Ambient Occlusion". Click it once and you're done. Repeat this for all zones that contain skin but skip the nails, lashes and so on. Now you should render a small test with both versions of the desired lightset and choose the version you like best. If so called artifacts appear in your renders you can alter the value of the Ambient Occlusion in the properties of the IBL. To get rid of artifacts try lowering the value in small steps and do some test-renders. The same thing goes for the raytraced shadows that are caused by the point light that is included in most of the sets. If your shadow looks brittled or "stripy" try altering the Min Ray Bias and/or the value of the shadow itself. Depending on how far or near the items are that catch the shadows some tweaking may be necessary as it is impossible to create shadow settings that work flawless with every possible item in a scene. If you have experimented with the lights for a while and own a powerfull computer you can try to add even more AO to your scene by enabling it on one or more lights beside the IBL as well! Rendering may take a while and the differences are small - but worth a try as they are even more natural and beautiful! The standard setup with AO only enabled on the IBL takes care of the standard situation where images are rendered with avarage computer power in a time that is acceptable for most customers. A hint for Poser 8 and PoserPro owners: You are now able to adjust the Shadow Samples of Raytraced shadows! If you are not satisfied with the look of a raytraced shadow because it looks brittle or "dirty" we recommend to find the light-source that causes this shadow (in most cases a oint-light") and increase the value of the shadow samples. Higher values may cause longer rendertimes but as soon as you find the right settings for your scene you will be very happy with how natural the shadows look! ___________________________________________________________________________________________ Files Included in the Product: Runtime Runtime: Geometries Libraries ReadMe's Textures Runtime\Geometries: Digital-Lion Runtime\Geometries\Digital-Lion: Inspiration Runtime\Geometries\Digital-Lion\Inspiration: DL_Kamera.obj flash_umbrella.obj Spotlight.obj Spotlight_Tripod.obj Runtime\Libraries: Light Props Runtime\Libraries\Light: SF Drama Baby!
