Why so long? A lot of different reasons, but one of the main reasons was to take the time needed to make a very good product, with real life causing delays along the way. We have all bought items that look great in the store advertisement but do not perform so great in Poser and Daz Studio. Especially when it comes to certain types of clothing items, such as the LongShirt in this set, which most of you can tell at a glance should not pose very well since clothing like this rarely does. Also, many of you know how it can be with clothing worn over clothing. So you may be surprised to find that the clothing in this set performs remarkably well, even when extreme poses are used, particularly so in the default (non morphed) out of the box state. A small amount of adjusting at times will be needed when morphs, such as draping and/or FBMs are applied, with poses, since these can drastically alter the shape and fit of the clothing. You will also find the morphs for styling and posing the clothing, to give it a more dynamic cloth or "real world" look, can be a lot of fun to play around with, and you will be eager to see what kind of results you can achieve. But please do not take our word for it. In addition to reading more about this product in the write up here, and looking at the promo images, be sure to check out the gallery posts and see the renders and comments being made by others using this product. The Assassin set speaks for itself. Thank you so much for taking time to look it over. -------------------------------------- A Very Special Thank You! To pixeluna for her work in creating the fantastic promo images seen on our store page! -------------------------------------- System Requirements: PC and Mac compatible Poser 6 or higher, Daz Studio 3 or higher -------------------------------------- Ownership Statement: All of this product's content was created by Ghostman & Shadownet -------------------------------------- Needed Files: Victoria 4 ++ Morphs (Optional) Elite Morphs (Optional) GND4 Morphs (Optional) Description of Items: A. When the clothing is used with a V4 character having the same FBMs but set at a lesser or higher value than 1 or in combination with other FBMs (or the character includes additional FBMs not found in the clothing) you may need to manually adjust the fit, this can be done using the ADJ, FBM, or one or more of the other morphs in the BODY group or in the affected body parts as needed. Also, some of the clothing items need to be magnetized to V4 to pose correctly in Poser, a special pose preset to magnetize the clothing is included in the Assassin Pose library utility pose folder. B. Prop items (pp2) - 5 individual items (22 total, including smart prop versions) 01 BackSword (combination of sword and sheath with morphs to draw and hide/show sword/sheath - includes smart prop versions for harness and V4 left hand) - 3 items 02 LongSword (combination of sword and sheath with morphs to draw and hide/show sword/sheath - includes smart prop versions for swordfrog and V4 right hand) - 3 items 03 ThrowingKnife (includes smart prop versions: 4 to belt pouch, 1 to each wrist cover, 1 to each hand, with two options, forward and backward grip, for each hand) - 10 items 04 Face Mask (with fitting and adjustment morphs - includes smart prop versions for V4 face and right hand) - 3 items 05 Shuriken (includes smart prop versions for V4 right and left hand) - 3 items *Smart props that attach to certain body parts (usually those other than the hands) may need to be manually repositioned depending on pose or morphs being used. You will find the smart props in folders with the name of the figure they parent too, ie SP_Belt would contain smart props for the Belt so be sure to select the Belt than load the smart prop(s). SP_Wristcovers would contain the smart props that attach to the wristcovers, etc. C. Poses (pz2 & mc6) MAT Poses & Textures - The set comes with a basic set of textures for the clothing and props (27 texture and bump maps in total). You will find two MAT folders in the Assassin library Pose folder along with a third in the Material section containing 16 different material pose presets. These are basically the same, the Material folder contains mc6 presets and The two Pose MAT folders contain MATS with Poser shaders and MATS with No Shaders (for use in programs such as Daz Studio). Utility Poses - The set includes a number of very useful utility poses to simplify common tasks, such as turning IK for legs off, Zeroing the V4 figure pose, hiding body parts hidden by clothing to minimize poke thru problems, locking the fingers legs or hands after you pose them (to prevent unwanted changes as you are working), etc. GND4 On and OFF (Poser) - this pose preset is for use with the Girl Next Door 4 character morph by Blackhearted. Apply this pose to V4 (not the clothing) this will inject a new dial in V4 that will link to the GND4 dial in the clothing and automatically fit the clothing to the GND4 body shape. This will also set the "Petite Foot" dial on for the moccasins and leggings (if you do not want the foot petite morph option go to the clothing item and set the dial value to -1) The ON option sets the GND4 morph on and the OFF preset will restore the clothing to the non GND4 state. If you apply the preset and do not see a change in the clothing you may need to refresh your scene by moving the camera or selecting another item in the scene such as a prop and then selecting V4 again. If you still do not see the change, try again, making sure you have V4 selected when you apply the pose preset. You can also manually set the GND4 dial in the clothing (BODY group) to 1. *Daz Studio users - The GND4_ON and GND4_OFF pose does not work in Daz Studio. Sometimes I found I could apply the GND4_ON pose to V4, then select one of the clothing items, such as the Pants, and set the GND4 dial in the BODY to 1, the other clothing items would automatically adjust to fit GND4. However this did not work all the time. So, for Daz Studio you will need to manually set each GND4 dial in the clothing to 1. Also the dial for the FootPetite in the moccasins and leggings. I regret the inconvenience. D. Hand Poses (fc2) - 6 poses The set includes a basic hand pose for each of the included props. Hand poses may be applied to either hand. Some props are set up for both hands, others parent to only one, the left or right. The ZeroPose will restore the V4 hand pose(including any grasp dials) to the default hand position. *In Poser it is recommended you turn limits OFF (most users work with limits Off) before applying a hand pose to V4 left hand to ensure the left hand pose applies correctly. This problem has been noted in Poser Pro 2010 but may also occur in other versions. ------------------------------------- Usage Tips or Limitations: For Best Results We recommend the following work-flow in (see thumbnail guide in character folder also) setting up your scene for Poser (Daz Studio automates some of this): *Load V4, Turn IK OFF & Zero V4 (see utility poses in the Pose library folder) *With V4 Selected (very important or super-conforming and JCM links to V4 figure may not work), Load Clothing & Conform to V4, *Magnetize the clothing (in particular the LongShirt, harness, and pants the other items are optional) There is a pose preset in the utility folder for this. *Again verify V4 is selected as your active figure, and load next clothing item. *Repeat the steps to conform and magnetize for remaining clothing items. *Apply the "Hide_V4_BParts" pose preset in the utility pose folder to V4 to turn off visibility for the body parts concealed by the clothing to prevent poke thru issues. NOTE: The clothing has been optimized to pose well on the default (non-morphed) V4 figure, with limits set to on. Because of the nature of layered clothing, it is difficult to completely eliminate all poke thru issues, particularly when changes are made to the fit of the clothing via the use of a FBM. Most Poser and Daz Studio users are familiar with poke thru problems and the workarounds for fixing them. In most instances the problem can be easily fixed using one or more of the dials found in the clothing (or on V4). The Adj morphs in the clothing in particular will be of use, but you may also find other dials, such as FBM, PBM and POSE morphs, useful in making these adjustments. The FBM in the clothing work best at a value of 1. When clothing super-conforms to a character shape that uses the FBM at a lesser or If a FBM dial value other than 1 is needed, or if a combination of FBMs is needed, for a particular character shape, you may find it necessary to make manual adjusted of the dials to get the best fit (use any dials, BODY or Body-part, as needed). Tips on Posing In general - The clothing when used in its default (non-morphed) state will follow the figure pose well with very little manual adjusting needed. The main exception to this is shin/knee portion of the LongShirt as this part of the clothing will not pose with V4 shin movement. Use the dials in the Thigh group (or body part group dial) on the LongShirt as needed to pose. When using the clothing with Morphs, such as FBMs and/or Styling and Posing morphs changes to the shape of the clothing may require additional adjustment. For best results use the included "05_Hide_V4_BParts" pose on your V4 figure when using clothing set as this will hide any body parts on V4 normally hidden by the clothing and as an added safeguard in preventing poke thru of these body parts with certain extreme poses. This will also aid in Poser if you forget to magnetize the clothing, though it is recommended that you magnetize the clothing to V4 to further ensure the clothing fits and poses correctly with V4. Some additional guidelines that might assist you in getting the best posing results for the clothing are as follows: 1. Pose your V4 figure with the clothing in the default state. 2. Use dials in the clothing to adjust fit to V4 as needed, for example if any FBM combinations in use with the pose show poke thru or need fine tuning (remember to hide body parts where applicable). 3. Use dials (including parameter dials) to aid in posing clothing. The LongShirt, the SwordFrog, and the Hood, are the clothing items you will generally want to pose for effect. It is recommended you start with LongShirt first, posing the shirt-tails, using the dials in the Thigh groups, and adjust from there. You may need to manually adjust the positioning of the props to match FBMs or pose being used. See below for more on using the props. More on Posing *LongShirt & SwordFrog - A few items, such as the LongShirt and the SwordFrog (primarily when the scabbard is attached) will need manual adjusting from time to time to get the right drape for leg movement. Both of these items will follow V4 leg movement overall, though the shirt-tails on the LongShirt do not have shin groups to match those in V4 so there may be times you will need to use the knee and shin dials to position. Both the LongShirt and the SwordFrog have dials set up in the "Thigh" body part groups to make manual adjusting easy. In addition to the morph dials also remember that you can and should also make use of the parameter dials, such as bend, twist, side-side, as needed, to aid in posing. The LongShirt also has ERC (remote control dials) in the Thigh group to allow you to pose the shins from this body group, making it easy to simply click on the body part with the mouse and then manually adjust the dials as desired. The SwordFrog has a similar ERC set of dials to control the special "Adjust" body part. Use these dials, along with any other morphs in this group, to fine tune and adjust the twist, bend, and side-side, and positioning of the scabbard when it is parented to the SwordFrog. You may, of course, also move and position the scabbard itself as needed. For the most part, however, you will want to make use of the normal parameter bend, twist, side-side dials in the SwordFrog thigh group to get the general pose and position you want, then fine tune with the ERC dials and morphs as needed. In most cases, you will want to pose the LongShirt and the SwordFrog using the dials in the thigh group(s). However, for styling effects, such as adding wrinkles, you will want to use the dials in the BODY group as these dials will control similar morphs across several body parts at the same time. *Hood - The other clothing item that may need manually posing, when certain morphs are used, is the hood. Normally the hood, in its default form, will follow the movement of V4's head and neck. It will continue to do so, even when the Hood Down morph is applied, to have the hood drawn down and back off the head in about the neck and shoulders. This is not so good since normally the hood would not need to twist or bend with the head and neck movement as it would when worn in its upright position. Special ERC control dials for the Head and Neck twist, bend and side-side movements are located in the BODY group. You will also find all the dials you need to work with in the BODY group, though you may at times wish to go to a body part and use the dials there. When the hood down morph is used, often it is necessary to adjust the head and neck posing of the hood to undo the effects of V4 head and neck pose. One way to do this is to first use the ERC dials in the BODY group to return the hood to its default position (with no hood down morph applied). What you are doing basically is using the ERC dials to reverse the pose being applied to the Hood by V4 head and neck pose due to conforming. Once you have more or less returned the Hood to its default position, apply the HoodDown morph and fine tune as needed. Another, perhaps easier method, is to not conform the Hood to V4. Instead, with V4 in the Zero Pose position, load the Hood and use the Figure Parent command option to Parent the Hood to V4's chest (instead of conforming). Now manually pose the hood as needed to match the V4 pose you wish to use. You may also need to use the dials in the right and left collar body part groups on the hood to aid in matching the pose. This a fast and easy way to pose the hood when you want to use it in the hood down morphed position. *Props - The Non Parented props are set up to load with zero dial transition and rotation values. Place and position these manually in your scene as desired using either the mouse and/or the dials for the prop. Smart props in general will move somewhat with the figure as it moves, but not always correctly so some manual adjusting of these props may be needed at times (see About Smart Props, next) for more specific information on these. Some of the props, such as the Sword sets have morphs to hide/show either the sword or the scabbard part as well as to draw the sword from the scabbard, or draw the scabbard down off the blade of the sword. The Belt knives also have morphs to aid in positioning and posing. About Smart Props Smart props that attach to the hands will generally not require any change in position, but you may wish to use the finger lock utility pose once you have the prop and hand pose set as you want, the same as you would want to use the lower body lock pose for any partial V4 leg and long shirt poses you apply so that these poses are not changed accidentally once you have them set up the way you want them. Smart props that are "worn" on the body, such as the backsword to the harness, the longsword to the swordfrog, the throwing knives to the belt or wristcovers, it is recommended you wait and load these after you have posed your figure and adjusted the clothing. Note: In the interest of reducing overall scene resources required, FBMs were not included for the props as these are easily manually adjusted. When used with FBMs you may need to manual adjusting the placement of the prop(s). The same is true when smart props parented to the body are use, as these props do not always move with the figure pose correctly, so some manual adjustment of their placement may be required. Good to Know & Known Issues *Some clothing items load with morph(s) set to 1 - this is usually a fit for the LongShirt. You may wish to set this morph to 0 if you need to spawn any new morphs or if you plan to use the clothing item on V4 without the LongShirt. Please note that the Restore poses for the clothing will return the clothing to their default loading state, this will zero any joint rotations and most morph dials. However some special morphs, such as the fit morphs will be reset to a value of 1 since this is the most common use. Just be aware that if you plan to create new morph(s) for the clothing you may need to check the BODY group and body part to make sure all morphs are at a 0 value. Also if the clothing is conformed to V4, do not forget to zero the figure pose (and morphs as needed) so that no JCM or deformer influences from the V4 figure being posed finds its way into your new morph via crosstalk. *There are two versions of the harness. The default version is for use with V4 when the LongShirt is worn. The alternate version is for V4 without the LongShirt with clothing that is more form fitting such as a bodysuit. *The clothing uses external binary files (pbm) stored in the geometry folder location for morphs so less resources are needed in working with the items in your scene. However if you save the scene, or re-save a figure(s) to the library, the morphs may be saved internally in the cr2 or pz2 (I do not know how this applies to Daz Studio) unless your general preference settings allow for the saving of eternal binary morphs. *If Left Hand Pose does not seem to apply the same as Right Hand pose In Poser, you probably have limits turned on. Turn limits off before applying the hand pose to V4 left hand and this should correct the problem. It is possible, even with limits set ON, to apply the pose to the right hand and use the symmetry command to mirror the correct pose to the left hand but it is usually easier to turn Limits Off, however this as an alternate option. *Strange poke thru with back of V4 calves and certain foot bends not there before, often if working with a V4 figure that has been saved as a cr2 or pz2 and reused in a scene. I am not sure what exactly causes this but the easy way to fix it is to hide the body-parts (namely feet and shin groups) since these are not normally visible beneath the clothing. *The pants seem to have white specks when render in Poser. The specks can result with some lighting setup and easy to correct by reducing the specular color value or setting a darker color - or - reducing the bump map strength or detaching the node on the pant material. You may also try using the Non Shader MAT for the pants. *The LongShirt - sometimes you will see distortion to the buttocks area, depending on the pose and the combination of morphs used to create draping effects. This is usually a result of the morphs causing the seam for the hip group to no longer pair up smoothly with the mesh in the thigh group(s). This is not always easy to fix short of redoing your morph setting with more care to how you alter the shape of the mesh in these body part groups, however, to a certain extent you can minimize and even smooth away some of this distortion by adjusting the buttock morphs in the thigh groups to match the hip group. You may also be able to adjust the hip morphs to some extent but you are more limited to the amount of changes you can make there before the morph has an adverse effect on the look of the body part. About Posing and Poke thru (please see For Best Results, if you have not already done so, for more) Poke thru is inevitable but a great effort was made to optimize the joint parameter settings for how the clothing bends and moves to eliminate as much as possible with most poses. When a full body morph is applied to the figure and clothing, the change in shape can also change how the figure and clothing will pose so this can also lead to poke thru issues happening when morphs combinations are used, especially since you have clothing that is being worn not only over the V4 figure but also over other clothing, all of which is needing to move as one, without the benefits of real life collision between the materials to keep them from passing through each other. The other problem is conforming clothing tends to wear more like plastic than like cloth, so while morphs can be included to add things like wrinkle and draping effects, the mesh itself is still rather static and plastic. Which in short means morphs sometimes work against each other and can yield both good and unwanted results depending on how you combine them. All these factors lend themselves to the problem known as "poke thru" where part of the figure or clothing underneath pushes through the clothing on the outside. Most Poser and Daz Studio users are familiar with the different comment methods of dealing with poke thru, but for those of you still new here are a few things you can do. 1. If the part poking through can be hidden (such as normally this body part is not seen being underneath the clothing), use the property editor to make it invisible thus hiding it. 2. Use one or more of the dials in the body part (or a FBM dial in the BODY group) to fix by morphing or scaling either the clothing or figure or both to eliminate the poke thru. 3. If the affected area has its own material group, you may be able to make this material transparent or create a transparency map to make this area invisible on render. 4. Use the morphing tool (Poser) or a deformer (such as magnet) to fix 5. Use the grouping tool to create a new material covering the area of poke thru than make the material transparent, thus making it invisible on render. 6. Ignore the poke thru in Poser/DS and fix later with post-work in your paint program (often the fastest and easiest solution, especially if it means having to do another long render of the scene again to fix something minor). *Product Questions and Support If you have any general questions about this product, or need technical support, please contact shadownet or ghostman by Renderosity site mail.
