Description -------------------------------------------------------------------- Essential Materials 01 is a robust resource for content creators and other artists. Artists can use their easily adjustable shading properties in combination with their own maps and other nodes to create a wide array of high quality materials. These materials can help you make anything from car paint to house paint, from windows to walls, and from clothing to furniture. They're designed to work alongside advanced skin shaders such as bagginsbill's VSS PR3 and PR4, and work with Poser Pro render GC. Each type of material comes with with a material GC version for all Poser users. Content creators can use the included scripts to create customized material collections and mat poses for both commercial products and projects. You need to use the script (found under the Scripts menu in the Essential Materials folder) to prepare the materials for redistribution. The materials are optimized for use with sRGB correction (commonly known as GC or gamma correction). Your monitor and photos work in sRGB color space, but 3d renderers make calculations in linear space. The renderer needs linear input to make correct calculations. Your monitor needs sRGB output to display the renderer's results properly. If you use Poser Pro, Poser can handle the necessary translations for you using gamma correction in the render settings. Use the regular version of the materials if you use render GC in Poser Pro. If you don't have access Poser Pro or don't want to use render GC, then you can use the GC version of materials. This will give you materials that work with advanced skin shaders and other advanced materials that have GC built into them, such as the ones bagginsbill makes. You can also use the regular version of the materials if you choose to avoid linear workflow. Though the materials are optimized for linear workflow, they've been tested using regular workflow with Synthetic's Proluma 2 light set, 4blueyes' IBL Brights, and Vex Lights. The P7+ version does not use the new nodes introduced by Poser 9. Though it has not been tested in Poser 6, it should work there. Poser 6 users who want to redistribute their materials will need to load the material preparation scripts using File > Run Python Script and navigating to the Runtime/Python/poserScripts/ScriptsMenu/Essential Materials folder. System Requirements -------------------------------------------------------------------- Mac or PC Poser 7 and higher. The materials should work in Poser 6, but have not been tested there. Ownership Statement -------------------------------------------------------------------- All of the content in this package was created by kobaltkween. The materials were made using Matmatic, a free material scripting tool created by bagginsbill (http://sites.google.com/site/bagginsbill/free-stuff/matmatic). Textures included were created using resources from texturemate and developed by kobaltkween, or developed from scratch by kobaltkween. Requirements -------------------------------------------------------------------- All you need is a version of Poser higher than 7, and a basic knowledge of how to use the Material Room. Installation Instructions -------------------------------------------------------------------- Run Winzip or another zip-program and point it to your chosen Poser runtime directory. All files will be placed as shown below from the list of files. Enable the "Use folder names" option when unzipping. Tips and Limitations -------------------------------------------------------------------- Don't be timid about experimenting with the options and settings. Have fun and play! Please see the included manual for detailed information about customizing the materials and preparing customized materials for redistribution. To view the manual, just double click on Documentation/Essential Materials 01 (P7+) Manual/Manual.html to open the manual in the default browser. If you want to view the manual as a PDF or print it out, please use the PRINT MANUAL option to print a PDF. Do not use the GC materials with Poser Pro GC on. Use the Regular materials if you use render GC. Poser Pro's gamma correction affects many nodes. Set control map image nodes to a custom gamma of 1.0 (transparency, displacement, bump, etc.). Some of the materials' parameters are somewhat altered by turning on render GC, so adjust your settings as necessary when using it. To render reflective and refractive materials, enable raytracing in your rendering. Reflective materials require at least 1 bounce, refractive materials require 2 or more, depending on the situation. All promo images were made using linear workflow. Many of the materials are too complex to preview properly in Poser's main preview, though they do appear correctly in the Material Room preview. You must significantly customize the materials included before you distribute them as your own They must be used as parts of material collections or mat poses for a mesh, not as materials on their own. You must use the included script to prepare the material for redistribution (see the manual for full instructions). Using these materials as the basis for stand-alone material set is prohibited. It would be great if you use these materials as the basis for mesh-specific texture sets, and great if you use them for props, clothes, or figures you distribute. Please do not rename existing nodes. The documentation and its associated scripts and designs cannot be redistributed. The material preparation script cannot be redistributed.
