The file path for locating and placing Sketch Design Preset styles is thus: Runtime/prefs/SketchPresets You can load these Sketch presets by manually placing them in this file path. You should make a back-up copy of the original Sketch Designs folder in Poser 8. 2. If you change or develop Sketch Design styles yourself, they are saved in the Sketch Design workspace. However, those that you save will not appear in the above file path, altho they will still be available in the SD window's list of presets. ............................................................................................. According to the authorities at Smith-Micro/Poser 8: "Windows Vista and its UAC system actively discourages applications from writing data to any location within the Program Files directory - even the application's own folder. This warranted the change in Poser 7.0.4 and beyond to allow content to be installed in writable locations such as the user's home directory or a shared location. Additionally the Poser prefs also needed to be relocated to a writable user specific location. The prefs location is dependent on the OS you are using and can be found: On Windows XP: \SystemRoot\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Poser\8.0 On Windows Vista: \SystemRoot\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Poser\8.0 On Mac OS X: /Users//Library/Preferences/Poser/8.0" ............................................................................................. Within the Poser 8.0 folder is the secondary Sketch Designs folder. You should be able to find or store SDs in either location; the Runtime prefs folder or in the locations described above. Working in the SD window, you will be able to access and use the styles in a single menu whether they are stored in either location. If you use another Windows OS version than those above that does not follow these file paths, try this. Select a preset or modify one. Save it with a unique name. Quit Poser and do a file search for your new SD preset. When you have it located you will know where new SD presets are stored. If you work in Poser 6 the style presets will save to the Runtime\prefs\SketchPresets folder. 3. All Sketch Design Presets, stock and new, are listed together alphabetically in the Load Preset menu, wherever they are stored. There are no preview icons of the styles as in Runtime Libraries. If you load or create many new presets the list gets long and can be cumbersome to scroll through. In the creation of these sets I used the following method for managing dozens of preset styles and categories. A. Make an archive of Sketch Design Presets with an assortment of folders, mine or yours. Mine are labeled, such as "Sketch Presets-Cyber" and "Sketch Presets-Black & White" and stored in an archive. B. When I want to use only one or two sets at a time I drag a specific set into the RT/prefs folder or into the "User Name/Poser 8.0" location. I drag the Sketch Presets folder already in place to my archives. Then I delete the style label, such as -Cyber from the folder name so it only says Sketch Presets, as did the original. Do not drag and replace the Sketch Presets folder or it will delete and replace the folder already present. Basically you are switching out and renaming folders. C. You can drag archived presets one at a time in and out of either storage location without changing folders and names. 4. Several things affect the rendered look of a Sketch Design style. They are mainly: lighting, camera angle and distance from the subject, and window display style. The lights and face cameras used for the creation of these styles is included with the product. New lights can be added or changed which will affect the appearance of the styles shown. Experimenting with lighting position and color, camera angle and distance from the subject, and window display style to achieve a great variety of results. See the Sketch Design Tutorial PDF included with this product on ways to maximize the use of these designs. It offers useful information and advise that is not covered in the Poser manual.
